From the Greek Tpoía = Troy
The origins of the vine are not certain, while the link with the city of Troy is certain. Among the legend that Diomedes landed on the banks of the Gargano carrying some vine shoots, who found his natural habitat here, to Frederick Il of Swabia who loved to taste the "full-bodied wine of Troia", up to the Marquises D'Avalos who bought the city in 1533, and noting the absolute quality and attitude of the surrounding land considerably increased the cultivation of this grape.
